Kristina Irwin, Candidate for State Senate District 24
I am a Serbian American, born in Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia, now Serbia. My parents left their communist country with two suitcases, a few dreams, and a 3-year-old daughter.
Leaving their home was not easy but making a life here was even harder.
My father, a physician, and my mother, a pharmacist in their old country had to re-learn and re-earn their medical degrees and master the English language while working odd minimum wage jobs hoping to make ends meet. After many years, it paid off and the American dream became a reality.
It is from them I learned that you need a good work ethic to succeed, sprinkled in with hard work, dedication, and determination.
As a mother of three school age children, I take my responsibility as a parent very seriously. As I observed legislation after legislation coming from Sacramento, I saw a clear attempt by some, to strip me and others of their parental rights. I witnessed legislation which placed our children in jeopardy, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
As wife, mother and daughter, I see our families, friends and co-workers now in danger due to policies and agenda which favor criminals, not victims.
The cost of living from gasoline, food and housing is impacting just about everyone.
There are many areas where improvement is critical, from water to housing, but it begins with a Public Servant who will speak the truth and address the consequences of our actions. In doing so, we can resolve the challenges we face today.
I am a fighter, and I will fight for you, for our State, and for our future.
